Konkola Blades Football Club head coach Beston Chambeshi says his team wants to make the Konkola Stadium a fortress for the visiting teams.

The Chililabombwe-based side is unbeaten in seven home matches, with their last defeat at home coming in October 2025, a 1-0 defeat to Zanaco Football Club.

On Wednesday, they beat Zesco United 1-0 to move to 30 points in seventh position from 21 MTN Super League matches.

In a post-match, Chambishi hailed his players for sticking to the game plan. He added that the players have continued to show a lot of maturity.

“I want to thank the players for the discipline and commitment they showed today. ZESCO United is a very strong and experienced side, so coming into this game we knew it would require focus for the full 90 minutes,” he observed.

“Our ground a fortress” – Chambeshi.

“We executed our game plan well, we were compact defensively, we managed transitions properly, and we were patient when we had the ball. The 1–0 scoreline might look narrow, but tactically the players followed instructions and showed great maturity. At home, we always talk about making our ground a fortress.”

The 2017 Under-20 AFCON-winning gaffer called for consistency from the team as they prepare to take on Nkwazi in a Week 22 encounter at Konkola Stadium.

“This is just three points. We remain humble and focused. There are still many games to play, and consistency is what will define our season. We will recover well and start preparing for the next fixture, which is this coming Sunday against Nkwazi FC at home.”

Meanwhile, Zesco United head coach Emmanuel Siwale bemoaned the missed chances by his team.

Siwale believes the players played according to what they had practiced but were unfortunate not to score.

“It’s a bad day in the office. What I can say is that the boys played well. and we created chances. If we had taken the chances, it would have been a different story,” he noted.

He added, “If we cannot score from the many chances we created, I think that is part of our problem. Like I’ve said, if we had converted the chances, it was going to be a different story.”

Zesco will now shift their attention to Sunday’s encounter against Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
