Zambian players abroad weekend wrap: Kangwa and Sakala score

Weekend action sees goals, debuts and mixed fortunes for Chipolopolo exports across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Golden Mafwenta marked his return to active football with a goal for his new club, Naftan Novopolotsk, during a club friendly against Orsha FC.

Elsewhere, Kings Kangwa maintained his electric start to 2026, scoring a thunderbolt in a 2-1 win against Ashdod to keep Hapoel Be’er Sheva top of the league. He has directly contributed to a goal in six of his last seven games, making it four goals and three assists this year.

Scoring his sixth goal in seven games, Fashion Sakala Jr was on target for Al Fayha as they fell 2-1 to Saudi champions Al Ittihad.

Daka endures FA Cup exit, Chaiwa injured again

Southampton broke Leicester City hearts again, beating the Foxes 2-1 to boot them out of the FA Cup. Appearing as a 79th-minute substitute, Patson Daka played in extra time. In Germany, Lubambo Musonda‘s last-man tackle was not enough to stop 1.FC Magdeburg from losing 2-0 against Bielefeld in the 2. Bundesliga.

Miguel Chaiwa was subbed off in the 77th minute by Hibernian after suffering a knock during a 2-0 victory vs St Mirren. Clocking 90 minutes, Benson Sakala featured for Bohemians Praha in their 2-1 defeat at Slovácko.

Pascal Phiri makes debut, Chama’s Simba gets first Champions League win

Pascal Phiri nearly bagged an assist on his official debut for Pyramids, who walloped Power Dynamos FC 3-1 in the CAF Champions League. He came on as a substitute at 72 minutes. Meanwhile, with their fate already known, Clatous Chama‘s Simba secured their first win of the CAF Champions League campaign, beating Stade Malien 1-0 as they bowed out.

Edward Chilufya was late to the party for Midtjylland’s 4-1 decimation of Odense Boldklub, coming off the bench in the 88th minute. In Austria, Kingstone Mutandwa lasted 77 minutes for SV Ried, who drew 1-1 with LASK.

Mutale makes debut in Saudi Arabia, Katongo bags first cleansheet

Simba SC loanee Joshua Mutale made his debut for Al Adalah, featuring in the starting XI for a Saudi First Division clash against Al Orobah. Still in the Middle East, Frankie Musonda started for Bahrain FC in their 3-0 drubbing against Budaiya.

In Israel, Emmanuel Banda‘s Maccabi Bney Reine suffered their second consecutive 4-0 hammering, losing to Maccabi Netanya, with the midfielder making a 15-minute cameo.  Songa Chipyoka played the entirety of Hapoel Petah Tikva’s 1-0 loss to Hapoel Haifa.

Elsewhere, Jadel Katongo notched his first cleansheet for Kayserispor, helping them end their four-match losing streak with a good second-half outing.

Sabobo features in Armenia, Nsabata and Chibwe clash

Joseph Sabobo Banda featured for Alashkert on Friday during a club friendly vs FC Surkhon, while Chanka Zimba played the first 69 minutes of Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s narrow win at Hamilton in Scotland.

In South Africa, Cyril Chibwe conceded two goals against Sekhukhune United on his return from injury as Toaster Nsabata watched from the dugout.  Emmanuel Mwiinde played 73 minutes for Marumo Gallants, who lost 3-0 to Orlando Pirates.

Lushomo Mweemba and Martha Tembo started in a loss to Fenerbahçe in Turkey; Xiomera Mapepa made a 22-minute cameo for Al Taraji Ladies in Saudi Arabia, while Misozi Zulu remained on the bench during Hibernian’s Paola 5-0 triumph in Malta.
