Ex-Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has appreciated his former club’s progression this season but feels the club could face difficulties in beating their opponents in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Kaizer Chiefs are in the same group with Egypt’s duo Zamalek and Al Masry and Zambia’s Zesco United.

Amakhosi have begun their Betway Premiership journey on a positive note, as they currently occupy third place in the league standings with 22 points from 11 matches played so far.

Currently, Chiefs have made significant progress in the domestic league compared to their previous seasons, where they struggled for form.

Junior Khanye told the Siya crew in an interview that he was impressed with the team’s headway this season.

“Compared to last season, Kaizer Chiefs were not in the same position they are in now,” he said. “So, taking that into consideration, there are changes and improvements by the team. There are players they have signed who have contributed to this improvement we’re seeing,” he added.

However, Khanye expressed concern about the team’s preparedness to face tough opponents in the Confederations Cup.

“In the CAF Confederations Cup, I think Chiefs might struggle because they will be tested against African giants like Zamalek and Zesco United,” he noted.

“Yes, in the Betway Premiership, there are teams that Chiefs will beat, like Orbit, because they are now in the league and all that, but against tough opponents they will struggle,” expressed Khanye.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will meet Zesco United at the end of January and beginning of February in the back-to-back fixtures.

The Zambian nine-time league champions eliminated Chiefs from the 2018-19 CAF Confederations Cup second round, 5-2 on aggregate.
