EXCLUSIVE: Mbesuma Speaks Out on Daka’s Struggles

Former Chipolopolo striker Collins Mbesuma has urged Leicester City forward Patson Daka to focus on regaining his form and ignore criticism on social media.

Daka has experienced an awful run of form in the last three World Cup qualifiers, failing to register a single goal or assist for the Chipolopolo boys.

The Leicester City striker is currently enduring a goal drought for both club and country. At his club, he has played just 9 games with only one assist in the English Championship this season.

The former Power Dynamos forward missed a point-blank chance that could have helped Zambia secure a positive result against Niger in the final World Cup qualifying match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday — a moment that has drawn widespread criticism of his form on social media.

However, Mbesuma has urged Daka to focus on regaining his form instead of paying attention to critics.

“The boy has been hardworking; he works hard in the team, Chipolopolo, or even Leicester City. I think the boy is just going through a rough patch, and each and every footballer goes through that at some point. It just depends how he will come back to revive his form. Hopefully, it won’t take long, but I believe with his hard work and discipline, I think he will find the form soon,” the 2012 AFCON winner told BolaNews in an exclusive interview.

Mbesuma continued: “Hopefully, he is going to find his form before Afcon, because we know what Patson Daka can do from Under-20 to the Senior level. So, it’s just a matter of time and for him to keep doing what he does best. At the moment, he must just leave social media, focus on reviving his form, because he still has many more years to play.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Portsmouth striker also advised Daka to stay away from social media and concentrate on rediscovering his best form.

“If he finds his form at the Club, we are going to benefit at the National team. At the moment, focus, leave social media, and concentrate to revive your career. My advice is, be humble, and for sure you will find your form.”

Daka has been Zambia’s most prolific striker over the past five years, scoring 21 goals in 51 appearances for the Chipolopolo boys. He currently ranks as the seventh all-time top scorer for the national team.
