Coming from a home defeat last weekend, the George Lwandamina -coached side, Kabwe Warriors redeemed themselves with a win over defending champions Red Arrows football club on Thursday afternoon in a week three fixture.

The warriors denied the Zambia army-sponsored side from topping the Super League standings when Dominic Chanda headed in a corner with only 8 minutes played in the first half.

The Kabwe side held on to their slender lead until the final whistle to record their first win of the season having drawn and lost to Nkana and Forest Rangers respectively in their first two fixtures.

Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe before the match said it was going to be difficult to face a team coached by his mentor  Lwandamina who at the end of the match praised the Arrows bench but said, a “teacher will always be a teacher “ referring to Mbewe who he once mentored.

Red Arrows have now failed to beat Kabwe Warriors at the Railway stadium for the last two seasons straight with their best result being a one-all draw.

They also missed a chance to earn seven points and climb to the summit of the league table following their first defeat of the season.

Kabwe Warriors will now go into their derby fixture on Sunday against their neighbors and rivals Prison Leopards with heads up after recording their first win in the super league while Arrows will look to put their house in order when they host Kansanshi Dynamos at Nkoloma stadium.
