Zanaco defender Fredrick Mwimanzi believes the team has made significant progress and is optimistic about a strong showing in the upcoming 2025/26 Super League season.

The Bankers have endured a tough 2024/25 season, struggling to find form and falling short of the top four, which has kept them out of continental competitions. The club narrowly avoided relegation on the final day, a disappointing outcome that left many fans and stakeholders frustrated.

Zanaco last tasted continental football three seasons ago under veteran coach Chris Kaunda, and the desire to return to that level remains strong within the squad.

Despite the recent setbacks, Mwimanzi is confident the team has turned a corner.

“Pre-season results definitely have an impact on the team’s performance in the league, but that doesn’t mean Zanaco won’t perform better this time around. Personally, I have seen a lot of improvement and some seriousness so far. There will be a lot of improvement from last season’s performance,” he told BolaNews exclusively.

The former Kabwe Warriors defender is hopeful that the club can reclaim its status as one of Zambia’s top sides.

“Zanaco is a big club. Personally, growing up, I have seen Zanaco winning titles and finishing in respectable positions, so every player — whether new or old — needs to have that in mind. And come next season, the team will get back to its best form,” he added.

Zanaco will kick off their new campaign against FC MUZA, as they aim to bounce back and challenge at the top once again.
