On Saturday at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka, Kabwe Warriors, the Zambian Premier League leaders and the top defensive team with just eight goals allowed, will take on Nkwazi FC in a Week 17 league fixture.
Nkwazi, the league’s second-best defense having let in nine goals, are aiming to exploit any mistakes from the Magnificent People’s team.
“We are not taking away the fact that they have a strong defense. They will still make mistakes because they are human beings. We will try to capitalize on those mistakes,” said Nkwazi head coach Aggrey Chiyangi in his pre-match briefing.
Chiyangi acknowledged the challenge of facing the league leaders but emphasized the importance of preparation.
“We know that Kabwe Warriors have had a very good run, and they are occupying the first position in the league, which makes it very difficult for us. But for us, it’s just how we prepare,” he stated.
Chiyangi revealed that his team has studied Warriors’ strengths and weaknesses as they aim for a positive result at home.
“We have tried to see the strong points as well as the weaknesses that we can capitalize on in the Kabwe Warriors team. In as much as we know it is going to be a tough game, our focus is that we have to do everything possible to get a positive result because we have a goal to achieve this season,” he added.
“We Can Contain Expected Pressure” – Mumamba.
On the other hand, Kabwe Warriors head coach Numba Mumamba described the clash as a tricky encounter against a well-organized opponent.
“We are playing a very tricky team in the name of Nkwazi. This is a team that has performed very well since the beginning of the season, so we expect a tough game, especially that we will be playing at their home ground. We have to go there with a positive mind so that we can pick the results that keep us on top of the league,” said Mumamba.
Heading into the weekend fixtures, Warriors sit at the summit of the log, but a slip-up could see them lose their top spot depending on other results. However, Mumamba remains confident his side can handle the pressure.
“Pressure will always be there, but we are capable of handling the pressure that comes with being log leaders,” he concluded.
