Mufulira Wanderers Football Club has announced that head coach Charles Kafula and his assistant, Harrison Tembo, have left the club by mutual agreement after just three months in charge. The pair were appointed in June of this year, following Kafula’s success in helping the nine-time Zambian champions avoid relegation last season.

“Mufulira Wanderers Football Club has mutually agreed to part ways with its two coaches, Charles Kafula and Harrison Tembo, who have been at the helm of the team from the beginning of the 2024/2025 soccer season. This decision comes after a series of unsatisfactory results,” the club stated.

Kafula had earned his appointment permanently after impressing during his time as caretaker coach. However, the start of the 2024/25 FAZ MTN Super League campaign has not gone according to plan. Wanderers have struggled, losing three games, drawing twice, and securing just one win in their opening six matches.

The back-to-back 2-0 defeats against Mutondo Stars and Zesco United further fueled discontent among supporters, who began calling for Kafula’s dismissal.

In response to the recent poor results, Mufulira Wanderers have appointed goalkeeper coach Charles Mpunga Kalumba as interim head coach. “In the meantime, goalkeeper Coach Charles Mpunga Kalumba will steer the ship on a temporary basis,” the club confirmed.
