At Khosa Stadium, River Plate Football Club defeated Kafue Eagles 2-0 on the road to earn their first victory in the National Division One League.

In their season opener in Zambia’s second division, the Bupe Chewe-coached team has amassed four points from their first two games.

River Plate began their campaign against Chirundu United in a 0-0 draw before winning all three points on Saturday afternoon.

As a coach, Chewe is thrilled to break the curse of not earning the most points at Khosa Stadium.

He gave his team credit for their perseverance in beating a formidable and seasoned opponent to record their first victory of the year.

“I think as a coach, I have struggled here (Khosa Stadium) for three seasons, but it was a good thing that we picked up three points,” Chewe said.

Though the team boasts many technically skilled players who are adept at playing a passing game, he pointed out that the players have trouble with long balls.

“Most of the players are good technically, so they always struggle whenever we play long balls, so I told the boys to keep the ball and the goals would come in, and we thank God that we found the chances and scored,” he stated.

The club will continue to build on the victories from their Week 2 fixture match heading into the upcoming games, according to Chewe, a former Livingstone Pirates coach.
