Athletico Lusaka has confirmed the transfer of winger Gift Siame to Spanish La Liga club Club Deportivo Legañes.

The 18-year-old has signed a five-year contract and will join the club’s youth team ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Siame will look to become only the second Zambian to play in the Spanish La Liga, following striker Francisco Mwepu.

Mwepu made history in May 2023 by becoming the first Zambian player to play in the Spanish top flight for Cádiz CF. The former Sturm Graz player accomplished the feat when he played the final 20 minutes against Villarreal.

Reacting to his move Siame was quoted as saying: “I am thrilled to embark on a new chapter in my career and life by signing in Spain. My gratitude extends to Atletico Lusaka and my agent, Nir Karin, for their invaluable support in helping me achieve my dream.”

His agent, Karin, believes that having more Zambian players in Europe’s top five leagues will help the Chipolopolo achieve greatness.

“I am delighted for Siame and confident that he will excel. It is a proud moment for Zambia to have another player in one of Europe’s top five leagues. With more Zambian players in Europe….. And the support of the Zambian football community, I believe Chipolopolo will achieve greatness again.”
