Zesco United defeated relegated Trident football club 5-1 in a Week 33 encounter to secure the CAF Confederation spot.

Following Red Arrows’ victory in the Zambian Super League last week, three Super League teams—Power Dynamos and FC MUZA—were vying for the final CAF spot.

FC MUZA’s 2-0 loss to the relegation-threatened Kansanshi Dynamos at Solwezi helped the Ndola-based team qualify.

Bruce Musakanya opened the scores for the home side in the 8th minute and Dalitso Lungu sealed the victory for Mabanga Boys in the 85th minute.

Enock Sakala scored a quaalude in the 2′, 13′, 47′, and 65′ while David Simukonda converted a penalty in the 35th minute to condemn Trident FC to one of their worst losses of the year.

With one game left in the season to go, Power Dynamos or FC MUZA have no chance to surpass Zesco, who have cruised to 59 points following their victory.

Elsewhere, Mufulira Wanderers secured next season’s topflight football despite a narrow 1-0 loss away to Power Dynamos. This is on account that Konkola Blades secured a one-all draw at home against NAPSA Stars.

The survival of both Prison Leopards and Kansanshi Dynamos is still in doubt. After winning their respective games, both teams have attained a maximum of 38 points and a critical 35 points apiece.

The result of Green Buffaloes’ match against Forest Rangers tomorrow will now determine their destiny in the Zambian Super League.
