ABSA Cup all-time top scorer Simon Bwalya has said he would love to see someone break his record one day.

Bwalya, who now forms part of the backroom staff at Super League side Mutondo Stars, is a former midfielder who turned up for Nkana and Power Dynamos.

He won the cup with the two Kitwe giants and went on to find the back of the net in the competition on eight occasions.

Bwalya is trailed by former teammate Ronald Kampamba, who has five goals in the competition’s history.

He said in an interview in Kitwe that it is nice to have his record stand for so long but he knows a time will come when someone will break it.

“Well, records are there to be broken. I know my record has stood for some time now…… But I think it is only a matter of time before someone takes over,” Bwalya said.

Bwalya scored his eighth ABSA Cup goal in Nkana’s 2-0 win over Konkola Blades in the quarter-finals in 2014.

He has hailed the transformation the competition has undergone since his days.

“Well, I think the competition continues to grow. This is a good thing. I was happy to see the number of teams expand this year.

“I am sure more will follow as it unfolds…… With the increase in the number of teams, it increases the chances of some players breaking my record,” concluded Bwalya.
