Assistant coach Keagan Phiri of super league side, Nkwazi Football Club says the police-sponsored team would not underestimate their opponents in the ABSA Cup competition this year.
The 2024 ABSA Cup has been increased to 21 teams from the previous eight. It now comprises of seven FAZ Super League teams, four FAZ National Division One league teams and 10 FAZ provincial league Champions.
Flying Nkwazi, who have 38 points from 25 games thus far and are now in fifth position, will play National Division One team Indeni Football Club in the competition’s round of sixteen.
Speaking to the media after Wednesday’s Draws, Phiri said they will respect all their opponents in the competition.
“We are going to respect them we know that we will be meeting a team that is almost our equal and also our past meetings with Indeni have been very difficult and tough games. So, we expect them to come here and compete, but we will treat them like we are meeting any other premier league team,” he said.
Phiri also mentioned that their goal is to win the trophy, therefore they would approach every game as it comes.
“We will take each game as it comes of course we have to win our game which is against Indeni then we will see how far we go from there. Obviously, we don’t want to be participants we want to Lift the trophy,” he concluded.
