Copper Queens striker Avell Chitundu is confident that her team, Zesco Ndola Girls FC, will maintain their league lead in the Zambian Women’s Super League (ZWSL) and win it at the end of the season.
This came after they defeated ZISD 2-0 on Sunday in a Week 22 match at Independence Stadium in Lusaka.
The victory extended their lead at the top of the ZWSL table to 57 points; behind them are the reigning champions, Green Buffaloes, in second place with 52 points.
Chitundu told reporters after the game that she was happy with her team’s victory despite facing a tough opponent.
“The game was very hard but we tried by all means to use the chances that we had to come out with the victory that we were looking for,” said the Copper Queens striker.
“I think I have tried what I am capable of doing and I think I have helped the team carry the day of today’s victory.”
The 26-year-old Copper Queens striker continued: “I need to score some goals because I had some chances in the first half but it was just an unlucky day for me. In the next game, I will make sure I use the chances that I get.”
Chitundu has 13 goals for her team this season, ranking fourth in the scorers’ chart behind Charity Mubanga (22), Green Eagles’ Rachel Moono (17), and ZISD striker Lungowe Namasiku (14).
