Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa has completed a five-month loan move to Belgian Pro League outfit KV Kortrijk from Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.

Following the lack of game time in Serbia this season, the playmaker completed a €500,000 loan deal from Red Star Belgrade, with whom he has a contract expiring in 2026.

He will now be plying his trade for Belgian topflight side KV Kortrijk until the end of the current campaign.

Founded in 1901, KV Kortrijk is an association football club located in the city of Kortrijk in the north-west of Belgium. They have spent sixteen (16) consecutive seasons in the Belgian Pro League after securing promotion in 2008 as Second Division champions.

They go by the nickname De Kerels (meaning: The Guys) and play their home matches at the 9,400-seat Guldensporen Stadion. Translated to English, the term ‘Guldensporen Stadion‘ means “Stadium of Golden Spurs,” a reference to a medieval Franco-Flemish war called “Battle of the Golden Spurs” in 1302 AD.

Their biggest rivals are SV Zulte Waregem, whom they face in matches known as the ‘South West Flanders derby’. However, Zulte Waregem is currently playing in the Belgium Second Division after suffering relegation from the top flight in 2022–23.

Has KV Kortrijk ever won a major trophy?

KV Kortrijk are yet to win a major title in their history, coming closest to doing so during the 2011–12 Begium Cup final, which they lost to Sporting Lokeren. They currently occupy the bottom spot in the 2023–24 Belgian Pro League table with 15 points from 23 matches.

With only eleven matches left before the regular season ends, KV Kortrijk will be counting on their new signing, Kangwa, to help them escape the drop.

That will be their main target until the end of the season, as they were knocked out of the Belgium Cup in the round of 16.
